Selecting the Perfect Teas for the Holidays

Tea has played an important role in winter holiday traditions for hundreds of years.  The vast variety of teas available throughout the world has resulted in different countries establishing their own rituals and traditions to highlight holiday celebrations.

In England in the 1800s, tea enhanced with mulling spices became a popular beverage for holiday carolers, a tradition that continues today.  In Eastern Europe, the flaming tea ceremony is a beloved tradition for Jewish families.  In Morocco, Hanukkah is celebrated with Moroccan mint tea, made with green tea, fresh mint leaves and sugar.

“Tea has been part of almost every Chinese holiday and special event,” said Dan Nicholas, owner of Culinary Teas, Inc. in Downers Grove.  “My personal journey with tea started with a Christmas gift from my wife.  She gave me a sampler box with several types of tea, an infuser, and an instruction booklet.  From there, the traditions and history of tea, along with loving the variety of flavors that one simple tea plant can offer, drew me in.”

Culinary Teas offers over 25 gift box and basket options to choose from, including Matcha kits, Tea samplers, and gourmet food.  You can also customize a gift right in the store.

“We recommend several decaffeinated teas for after Thanksgiving dinner or on Christmas Eve,” said Nicholas.  “Our Bourbon Vanilla Rooibos tea offers our popular vanilla flavor with the jazzy depth of Rooibos.  The Orange Spice Decaf has a smooth, delicious character enhanced with a note of spicy cinnamon.  The Peppermint Organic tea improves digestion and tastes terrific, literally taking your breath away, and the Chamomile Lemongrass Herbal tea offers a heavenly flavor, very light and relaxing.”

“Another favorite is our Comfort Blend Herbal tea that restores balance in the body and creates a general feeling of well-being and relaxation, helping to bring on a restful night of sleep”.
