Seek long-term headache relief from your chiropractor

If you suffer from frequent headaches, you’re not alone.

According to the American Chiropractic Association, nine out of 10 Americans suffer from headaches.

Living with headaches or even migraines can impact your daily activities and even leave you unable to function.

A persistent ache, light and noise intolerance, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, depression and irritation are often symptoms that indicate there may be a structural issue.

Research shows that spinal manipulation may be an effective treatment option by doctors of chiropractic care, such as Dr. Mike DeCubellis at Main Street Chiropractic in Downers Grove.

A 2011 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic care, including spinal manipulation improves migraines and headaches that originate in the neck.

The spine can move out of position due to developmental issues, trauma, repetitive stress or other incidents, and that misalignment can put pressure on surrounding nerves.

When the nerves are compressed or irritated, the muscles in the back, neck and jaw tighten. According to Dr. DeCubellis, that tightness can lead directly to an acute headache or migraine.

“A headache or migraine can be a sign that there are deeper problems arising in your spinal column, and because every other system in your body is impacted by your spinal health, it is very important to deal with these issues when the signs begin to arise,” DeCubellis states.

Chiropractic care has a long history of successfully treating headaches and migraines.

A chiropractic treatment starts with a thorough evaluation that will rule out other possible causes of your headache and examine your spine for issues of misalignment.

Unlike medications that only treat the problem on the surface level and provide short-term relief, a chiropractic adjustment will address the cause of your headache or migraine and provide lasting results that will improve your quality of life.
