Swim Lessons and Gators Swim Team

Swimming is great for many reasons. It provides pleasure, it’s healthy and it can even teach you the skills to possibly save someone’s life, including your own.

Those looking to learn how to swim should seriously consider the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Learn to Swim program. It provides a positive, fun-filled opportunity for children and adults to learn skills that will help reduce potential accidents as well as provide opportunities for lifelong enjoyment in the water.

Classes are filling quickly and some will start soon. Visit for more details.

Parents & Tot Water Exploration will introduce your infant to the water and you will learn how to manage an aquatic emergency as well as receive CPR instruction.

Pre-Beginning class is for children between three and five years of age. They will be taught how to respect and enjoy the water - rather than fear it - and will also learn some basic skills.

There are three different levels of Journey I classes for kids five and older. IA Skills includes breath holding, opening eyes under water and fully submerging head. IB Skills provides an introduction to front float, back float and back glide. IC Skills combines movement with the glide strokes, rotary breathing, arm strokes and changing direction.

Kids who are six and older can advance to Journey II and III, learning front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke and much more.

Private swim lessons, which are 30-minute one-on-one lessons tailored to meet personal needs and goals, are available for children. Private lessons are also offered for those 16 and older, including adults.

Children interested in competitive swimming can join the Gators Swim Team.

With so many offerings, now’s the time to sign up to learn how to swim, because mastering this skill at a young age can benefit you throughout your life.
