Tennis lessons

SPONSORED

Are you old enough to remember John McEnroe and Björn Borg’s classic match at Wimbledon in 1980? Or, were you born after 2000 and been around just long enough to watch Serena Williams win the most Grand Slams in the history of tennis? Regardless of your age you can take tennis lessons at the Glen Ellyn Park District and participate in this fun, healthy and physically demanding sport.

Classes are available for all skill levels and ages, including for kids who often learn to hold a racquet and hit a ball for the first time.

Red Launch (Ages 4+) teaches the basic skills of tennis in a fun and fast-paced environment.

Red Blast (Ages 5-6) allows kids to continue to develop their stroke as well as movement on the court.

Orange Launch (Ages 7-8) is ideal for the age-appropriate beginner and for players who have had multiple weeks of Red Blast instruction.

Green Launch (Ages 9-10) teaches kids more about stroke development, teamwork and sportsmanship in an entertaining yet productive way.

Junior Competitive (Ages 11-14) is for beginners through intermediate players who are interested in a summer-long experience of learning more about tennis while continuing to improve their skill level.

Finally, there’s the Junior Elite (Ages 11-17) that can assist players in reaching a more competitive level of tennis, including some who are interested in playing on high school teams.

For those adults who are finally ready to give the popular sport a try, it’s never too late to get started and there are specific adult lessons.

All classes are taught at the outdoor tennis courts at Sunset and Memorial Parks. Glen Ellyn Park District’s head tennis professional is Mark Cunnington. He’s a certified professional with close to 20 years of tennis experience who can teach tennis at all skills levels and age groups.
