David Tiemstra became the first Hinsdale Central player to be drafted into Major League Soccer when he was picked by the San Jose Earthquakes in the third round of the supplemental draft Tuesday.

The defender played college soccer at Ohio State, where he was the two-time Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten.

A former All-American for Hinsdale Central, Tiemstra also was a two-time all-state selection while leading the Red Devils to fourth place at the state tournament in 2007.
