I don't like to generally blog about myself in this column, but I had an interesting thing happen to me over the weekend. I was approached, after three years out of the wrestling business, to be a part of a new promotion.
Now these fine folks knew nothing of this column, as I don't advertise it to anyone "in the business," but they remembered me when they wanted to start a new promotion in Kansas.
Where I live in Missouri isn't too far away from Kansas -- only a couple of hours driving -- so that didn't disqualify the idea. The idea of taking bumps again though sure did. The last time I took bumps, I bruised my kidneys and all of my ribs. It made for a quite painful week or so after, let me tell you.
The co-owner informed me that I would either manage a wrestler or I could be the commissioner of the organization. Both possibilities intrigued me, and with my training still buried in my mind, I knew I could pull off both jobs. But the co-owner really wanted to be the manager, and I agreed to be the commissioner of this new group.
Work started nearly immediately, as the other co-owner asked me for a promo video to help hype the launch of this new company. I used my lunch break and shot what I knew would be take one. Surprisingly, he liked the first promo and really asked me just to announce the first two booked matches for our first card.
I will not name the promotion at this time, seeing as I am not in charge, but I will keep you all up on the way things go on the indy scene. Now if things fall through, heck, that's just a part of the indys as well.
