BOLINGBROOK – Guards Prentiss Nixon and Gage Davis helped Bolingbrook boys basketball capture a second place trophy over the holiday weekend. After wins over Eisenhower and Springfield Southeast to start the Decatur Turkey Tournament, the Raiders fell to highly touted Springfield Lanphier 73-58 in the championship game.
Brooks Middle School won its own 8th grade girls basketball regional title Thursday, beating district rival Jane Addams 49-22. The Lady Bulldogs (19-2) will compete for the sectional title at Brooks at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, against either Homer or A. Vito Martinez.
BOLINGBROOK – For 12 years, Parrker Westphal has led by example on the football field. But this season, he also endeavored to be the outspoken, vocal leader of the Bolingbrook defense.
The high school football season wrapped up with state championship games over the weekend, and now the Suburban Life honors the cream of the crop from Benet, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Hinsdale Central, Hinsdale South, Lemont, Lisle and Westmont for their performances this season.
BOLINGBROOK – It takes a team to fill a 6-foot-7-inch hole. After last season, Bolingbrook’s boys basketball team waived goodbye to senior forward Ben Moore – who graduated, packed up his 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and moved on to play collegiate ball for legendary coach Larry Brown at Southern Methodist University.
BOLINGBROOK – Key departures cannot quell expectations for the Bolingbrook girls basketball team. After going 326-36 in 12 seasons as the Raiders’ head coach,Tony Smith left the program he built to accept the head coaching position at Homewood-Flossmoor.
With one of the best girls volleyball programs in the state, Benet continues to produce all-area nominations. But the talent is abundant on the South team, as Bolingbrook, Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Hinsdale Central, HInsdale South, Lemont and Lisle and Westmont are also represented.
BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook’s undefeated season came to a screeching halt on Friday. Perfect through nine regular season games and one playoff contest, the top-seeded Raiders were upset by Marist on Friday, losing 21-7 and bowing out of postseason competition.
Tied at 7 at the half, Bolingbrook ends its football season in the second round to Marist 21-7, on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.
