Man charged with aggravated battery
Angel Hernandez, 22, 1256 Lemoyne Ave., Romeoville, was charged with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after police were called to the 1000 block of Bothwell Circle at 3 p.m. June 21.
More than $10,000 lost in four business thefts
Bolingbrook police are investigating four thefts to businesses between June 19 and June 24, resulting in the total loss of an estimated $10,900 in merchandise.
• A safe containing cash and papers valued at more than $4,000 reportedly was stolen from a business in the 400 block of West Boughton Road after midnight June 22, police said.
• According to police reports, a man entered a business in the 100 block of South Weber Road at 10:30 a.m. June 19, grabbed a bin containing 188 PlayStation 3 video games valued at more than $6,100 and ran out of the store without paying.
• Four memory sticks and five memory cards with readers, valued at more than $300, reportedly were stolen between June 18 and June 20 from a business in the 200 block of South Weber Road, police said.
• Two cartons of cigarettes and four bottles of alcohol with a combined value of more than $500 reportedly were stolen from a business in the 400 block of North Bolingbrook Drive after midnight June 24, according to police reports.
Charges filed against 12 in DUI initiative
Bolingbrook police charged 12 drivers with driving under the influence of alcohol between July 2 and July 7 as part of an initiative to remove impaired drivers from the road.
According to police reports, among those charged were:
• John Kulhanek, 17, 17 Cider St., Bolingbrook, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions, improper lane usage and failure to wear a seat belt at 3 a.m. July 7 near Kings Road and Boughton Road;
• Frank Martin, 29, 321 Fairfax Ave., Romeoville, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, improper passing on shoulder, disregarding a stop sign and disobeying a traffic signal at 9 p.m. July 6 at Rodeo Drive and Kings Road;
• John Ratliff, 20, Aurora, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage at 4 a.m. July 6 in the 200 block of South Bolingbrook Drive;
• Javier Diaz, 27, 610 Preston Drive, Unit 127, Bolingbrook, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turn, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving without insurance at about 3:15 a.m. July 6 in the 600 block of Preston Drive;
• Lino Martinez, 35, 610 Preston Drive, Unit 318, Bolingbrook, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid driver’s license and driving without insurance at 11:45 p.m. July 3 in the 600 block of Preston Drive;
• Jamal Jabbar Nutall, 23, 7239 Woodward Ave., Woodridge, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and disobeying a traffic control signal at 11:35 a.m. July 3 at Boughton Road and I-355;
• Aubry O. Barnes, 39, 301 Charlestown Drive, Bolingbrook, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turn and improper lane change at 2:30 a.m. July 3 near Boughton Road and Winston Drive;
• Alejandro Zepeda, 45, Plainfield, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage at 2:15 a.m. July 3, near Lindsey Lane and Lindsey Court;
• Kim Brown, 44, 553 Spruce Street, Bolingbrook, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions and illegal lane usage at about midnight July 3, near Falconridge Way and Ashbury Avenue;
• Monserrat B. Arreola, 21, 574 Emerson Court, Bolingbrook, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, expired license and failure to signal at 11 p.m. July 2, near Apache Court and Seneca Way;
• Steven Macaluso, 44, 1342 Amaranth Drive, Naperville, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal lane usage, driving without insurance and illegal transportation of alcohol at 5:15 p.m. July 2, near Lily Cache Lane and Weber Road;
• Debra Lester, 54, 476 Hummingbird Lane, Bolingbrook, charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol at 12:15 a.m., July 2 in the 300 block of west Briarcliff Road.
Police still investigating robbery near bike path
Bolingbrook police continue to search for a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery at 2:45 p.m. June 24 on the Bolingbrook Park District bike path near Blackhawk Lane and Yellow Pine Drive.
According to police, an 18-year-old man was riding a bike on the path when another man approached him and punched him in the face. The assailant then took the man’s bicycle and iPod. The suspect then rode the bike north on the bike path. The stolen items had an estimated value of $750.
Multiple charges filed
Aaron Pierce, 24, 180 Delmar Drive, Bolingbrook, was charged with aggravated battery to an officer, resisting arrest, criminal damage to property and assault July 2 after officers tried to pick Pierce up on a Will County warrant.
According to Lt. Ken Teppel, spokesman for the Bolingbrook Police Department, officers in the vicinity of Food4Less, 271 S. Bolingbrook Drive, recognized Pierce, who had an outstanding warrant from Will County.
When officers tried to talk to Pierce, he allegedly ran into the parking lot of the store.
When other officers responded to the scene and tried to subdue Pierce, he struggled with officers, head-butting one and tripping another, Teppel said.
One officer’s knee was scraped and bloodied during the arrest, Teppel said.
Bolingbrook woman faces gas theft charge
Monserrat Arreola, 21, 642 Montrose Circle, Romeoville, was charged with theft at about midnight July 3 after she allegedly drove off without paying for $56 worth of gasoline from the Meijer’s gas station, 195 North Weber Road, police said.
Police used video images taken at the gas station to locate the vehicle and the driver, who was taken into custody near Apache Court and Seneca Court in Bolingbrook.
