Gun charges filed against Bolingbrook resident

Javier Franco, 23, 209 S. Pinecrest Road, Bolingbrook, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, reckless discharge of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition without a valid Firearm Owner’s identification card June 3.

Police were called to the home of a resident in the area of the 200 block of Pinecrest Road at about 9 a.m. June 3 for reports of shots fired.

A neighbor of Franco who called police said that while watching television in his kitchen, the neighbor heard what sounded like gun shots coming from the vicinity of Franco’s residence, said Lt. Ken Teppel, spokesman for the Bolingbrook Police Department.

“The neighbor said he recognized the sounds of a single gun shot and reported to us that after the initial shot, he heard a second one that sounded even louder,” Teppel said.

For more than 30 minutes, Police attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home before Franco came to the door, Teppel said.

The homeowner, whom police did not identify, permitted police to enter and search the residence, where police discovered a Ruger .22-caliber rifle.

“Officers placed Javier Franco under arrest without incident and confiscated the rifle,” Teppel said.

Franco had a previous felony conviction, but police did not elaborate on the conviction.

“Apparently Mr. Franco had been drinking, and perhaps was shooting the gun at birds outside the home,” Teppel said.

No one was injured in the incident.
