A dog and her three puppies died in a fire at a Romeoville dog grooming business late last night.
The blaze, at Suzette’s Dog Grooming, 205 W. Romeoville Road, occurred at about midnight and took three responding Romeoville fire stations about an hour to extinguish, said Romeoville Assistant Fire Chief Ed Panzer. The small building was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported.
Between six and eight other dogs were removed from the building and taken to a local animal control house.
A damage estimate was not immediately available, but Panzer said the fire damaged the entire building, which is uninhabitable. Fire officials believe the flames started in a rear bathroom.
