Bolingbrook, IL -

A 49-year-old female school nurse at Wood View Elementary School in Bolingbrook was charged Thursday with three felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse for allegedly having sex with three different teenage males in December of 2006, according to Bolingbrook police.

Laura J. Obzera, 49, 876 Bonnie Brae Lane, Bolingbrook, was charged in Will County with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, all Class 2 felonies that carry a possible sentence of three to seven years in prison, said Chuck Pelkie, spokesman for the Will County State’s Attorney Office.

According to Pelkie, Obzera is accused of having sexual relations with three separate individuals — the victims range in age from 13 to 17 — between Dec. 1, 2006 and Dec. 31, 2006.

Obzera was released after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.

Obzera is an active licensed practical nurse, according to the Illinois Division of Financial and Professional Regulation. She was licensed in 1982 and had no prior violations.

Obzera is listed as a Wood View Elementary School health assistant on the school’s Web site. Attempts to contact the school as of Thursday afternoon were unsuccessful.

The Bolingbrook Police Department and Valley View School District issued separate releases Thursday stating the incidents from which the charges stemmed did not take place on school grounds.

“At this point in the investigation there is no reason to believe that any criminal behavior occurred on any school property, or that Obzera met her victims through her employment,” the release issued by the Bolingbrook Police Department stated.

School officials were made aware of an allegation of child abuse Monday, Sept. 8, according to the school district release. Police were notified the same day, school officials said.

According to the release issued by Bolingbrook police, investigators on Sept. 2 joined an inquiry by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services involving possible inappropriate text messages of a sexual nature sent between a female adult suspect and male teenaged victims.

When asked how the district was notified of the allegation, School District spokesman Larry Randa said, “we cannot comment on that at this time.”

No other information was being released as of Thursday afternoon other than the School District release, which said the employee has been working for the School District since 2001, has been placed on administrative leave and was advised by School District officials not to be on school property.

“To the district’s knowledge, none of the allegations occurred on school property or involved any student at the school where the adult is employed,” the release said. “The same day the district was made aware of the allegations, a report was made to the police and other appropriate agencies. The district has and will cooperate fully with these agencies and will take all actions necessary to (ensure) the safety and well-being of its students.”

Obzera was placed under arrest at 2 p.m. at the Bolingbrook police station, police said.

Police continue to investigate, and are asking anyone with any information to contact police at (630) 226-8620.
