Former Bolingbrook resident Vicente Garcia, a reputed high ranking leader of the Latin Kings street gang, wanted since September on charges of federal drug and firearm offenses, has been arrested in Mexico and is now awaiting extradition from Houston, the FBI said.
According to the FBI, Garcia, 30, was arrested in late December in the city of Tamazula after unspecified information surfaced regarding his whereabouts. In early December the FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Garcia, whose last known address is 556 Emerson Circle in Bolingbrook. Garcia also lived at 212 Mill Stream Drive, Bolingbrook, according to the FBI.
Garcia — who the FBI said also went by aliases such as “DK,” “Disciple Killer,” “Coon” and “Possum” — has been the subject of a manhunt since September, shortly after authorities arrested and charged about 40 reputed Chicago area gang members with a variety of crimes as part of Operation Pesadilla, which targeted the leadership of the street gang, said Robert D. Grant, special agent-in-charge of the Chicago office of the FBI.
According to charges filed in September, Garcia is accused of distributing cocaine and firearms throughout the Chicago area.
