Several students from Riverside Brookfield High School have been recognized for their achievements on standardized exams.
In October, the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test was given at RB.
Junior students who score at the very top of this test can achieve recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Two students, Hugh Berglind and Nathan Smith, qualified as semifinalists in the 2010 Merit Scholarship Competition.
To qualify as a semifinalist, each student had to be one of the highest scoring entrants in the state.
To advance to the finalist level, Hugh and Nathan have to complete an application. They will be notified in February if they are finalists. If they become finalists, they have an opportunity to receive Merit Scholarship Awards, which will be given out in spring 2010. The awards are monetary scholarships that can be applied to a collegiate education.
RB also had five Commended Scholars, students who places in the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition. Those students are: Amy Delbecq, Shannon Glavin, Nathaniel Hurst, Vija Lietuvninkas and Charles Rock.
Five students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning a grade of four or higher on a five point scale on all AP exams taken and grades of four or higher on eight or more AP exams.
The students are: Claire Chaney, Ellen Farnham, Jordan Messner, Alex Shaw and Sheela Turbek.
Fifty students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning at least a 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of three or higher on five or more exams. Twenty-eight students received AP Scholar with Honor awards by earning at least at 3.25 on all exams taken and grades of three or higher on four or more of the exams. Eighty-two students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by earning a grade of three or higher on three or more AP exams.
One hundred and sixty students were designated as AP Scholars as a result of their scores on the college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams.
