DUI alleged
Peter Alvarez, 32, of Chicago was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop near the Mannheim Road entrance to Interstate 290 at about 12:30 a.m. Sept. 30, according to police reports.

Police said Alvarez ran a red light at the Mannheim Road and Harrison Street intersection and pulled in front of a Westchester police squad car en route to a call. Alvarez then crossed three lanes of traffic toward the westbound entrance to Interstate 290.

Alvarez was charged with drunken driving, disobeying a traffic control signal, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to signal and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, police said. He was given a Nov. 28 court date in Maywood.

Teen mugged, backpack stolen
A 14-year-old boy was robbed in a Roosevelt Road alley at about 7:30 a.m. Oct. 1, police said.

The boy was walking through the alley when a man made contact with him and demanded his book bag, police said. The man fled eastbound in the alley with the book bag, which contained a black notebook and $47 from candy sales.

Police described the man as white, about 6 feet, 1 inch with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black or dark gray pants.

Wine, food stolen from residence
An apartment on the 1600 block of Mannheim Road was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. Oct. 1 and 12:30 a.m. Oct. 2, police said.

The resident told police the burglar or burglars appeared to have pushed in a window air conditioner unit to gain entry to the apartment, according to a police report. The resident reported missing a receiver, a jar of change, wine and food from the refrigerator.

BB gun fired at teen
A woman fired a BB gun at a 13-year-old boy as he was walking near the intersection of Portsmouth Avenue and Bond Street at about 6:45 p.m. Oct. 3, according to police reports.

Police said the boy was walking north on Portsmouth Avenue when a car drove by him slowly. The driver, a woman in her late teens or early twenties, then pointed and fired two shots from BB-type gun. The driver and her male passenger began laughing and drove off.

The boy was not hit by either shot, police said.

Police described the vehicle as a small, royal blue car with four doors. The young woman had blonde hair. The passenger was described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s with dyed-orange hair.

Power tools stolen

About $16,000 worth of power tools and other landscaping tools were stolen from a storage trailer belonging to U-Bees Inc. between Oct. 2 and 12:15 p.m. Oct. 4, according to a police report.

Police said the trailer’s lock had been removed while it was parked in a lot on the 10001 Derby Lane.
