A reception by the Berwyn Arts Council will open an exhibit by photographer Frank Rico of Chicago, whose work focuses on capturing his city’s unique urban landscape, industrial settings, diverse population and natural beauty.

Opening night festivities run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, in the Route 66 Museum, 7003 W. Ogden Ave., Berwyn.

The exhibit then will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 16 to 19, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan 20.

Rico shares his vision:

“I feel that photography is often a case of being in the right place, at the right time. For that reason, I usually have some form of digital camera at my side, and am constantly looking for that perfect shot or photo opportunity. Sometimes, I catch the moment and, sometimes, I miss, but there’s always a next time. When returning from a photo shoot, I’m often surprised at how the pictures turn out after reviewing them closely. It’s exciting to see more detail and even things that weren’t apparent when the photos were taken —  my version of the surprise you can find in a Cracker Jack box, I guess.”

The photographer, who also is a cyclist, graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and is an IT professional.
