Don’t stereotype doctors when talking health care
Dear President Obama:
You are working so hard to help our country heal but please be more careful with your choice of words. Two weeks ago you insulted the brotherhood of police and the family of medicine within a very short span of time. Police were quick to respond; so one of their own was treated to a beer in the White house last week. Physicians have not been as vocal.
At a press conference July 22, you said that when a sore throat is being treated: “The doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, ‘You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid’s tonsils out.’”
Implying that physicians make decisions based upon financial incentives rather than what is best for our patients was the same kind of irresponsible remark made about the policeman.
We need your help with many things, including health insurance reform, access to health care for the legitimately uninsured, and protecting the relationship between patients and their physicians. Lawmakers must leave medical decisions to those who are appropriately trained.
Dr. Lanny F. Wilson, Hinsdale
Many people helped bank celebrate 13th anniversary
On July 25, Clarendon Hills Bank celebrated its 13th anniversary with an annual community cookout. It was a beautiful day, and hundreds of local residents came out to help us celebrate.
Special thanks go out to Lee Zografos and his family and staff at the Eagle Restaurant, who again served more than 1,000 sandwiches; Chuck Kauffman and the staff from the Daily Scoop, who served more than 400 ice creams; Don Moritz and the Plinks and Plunks for providing the entertainment; and, finally, Chief Brian Leahy and the Clarendon Hills Fire Department, who brought their equipment for residents to climb and inspect.
We owe the largest debt of gratitude to the residents and businesses of Clarendon Hills and Westmont for their continued patronage and confidence.
David LaBrash, president, Clarendon Hills Bank
