St. Francis marched out to a 21-0 lead over Nazareth in the first quarter of their second-round Class 5A state playoff contest Saturday and went on to win 42-20, ending the Roadrunners' season at 8-3.

One goal for big brother and one goal for little brother produced one huge victory for St. Joseph soccer. Both juniors but 11 months apart in age, Marco Gutierrez and Alex Gutierrez notched second-half goals to beat Bremen 2-0 in Tuesday’s Class 2A supersectional at Benedictine University.

Freeport, 5-4 going into Saturday afternoon's Class 5A first-round playoff contest at Nazareth, surprised the Roadrunners out of the gate by scoring two quick touchdowns in the first 3:20 of the game. The Pretzels led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter, but it was all Roadrunners from that point on.
