Woodridge police say an alert witness to a motorcycle accident this morning in Woodridge may have saved a man’s foot.
 
According to Carrie Noe, spokeswoman for the Woodridge Police Department, an unidentified Woodridge man riding a motorcycle eastbound on 63rd Street at the I-355 overpass had one of his feet severed when the motorcycle he was driving struck a front loader that was attempting to make a U-turn in the road.
 
Noe said a witness recovered the foot, which was severed at the ankle, and placed it on ice until giving it ro paramedics who arrived on the scene shortly after the accident occurred at 7:30 a.m.
 
“If there is anything good that came from this, it was that someone reacted with very clear thinking during a high-intensity situation,” Noe said.
 
The person who recovered the foot was not identified.
 
The victim was transported by Lisle-Woodridge Fire District paramedics to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he underwent an operation to re-attach the foot, Noe said.
 
The hospital did not release any information about the victim.
 
Noe said the incident remains under investigation, and no tickets had been issued as of 12:30 p.m.
 
“Tickets could be issued after more information is developed,” Noe said.
 
Noe said the truck was heading westbound over the I-355 overpass when it attempted to make a U-turn and go back eat to the northbound ramp to I-355.
 
“The driver apparently was trying to get onto the northbound ramp at I-355 to get to a construction site and had come to a stop in the middle of the U-turn,” Noe said.
 
The eastbound motorcycle caught the edge of the truck as it tried to get past it, Noe said.
