Jim Durkin, faculty member at College of DuPage, will run on a treadmill from 7 to 9 a.m. Thursday, March 26, in the College of DuPage Physical Education and Recreation Center Aerobic Fitness Lab, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, to heighten awareness of Deep Venous Thrombosis.
The event is in recognition of Mach being Deep Venous thrombosis Month.
Durkin, a Woodridge resident who suffers from DVT — more commonly known as blood clots — said the event is not a fundraiser, but rather a method of increasing the public’s awareness o the ailment.
“I hope my walking makes more people aware of the disease,” said Durkin, who teaches Political Science at the college.
“Left untreated, a blood clot can travel to the heart, lungs and brain and cause serious health problems, including heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms and strokes,” Durkin said.
Blood clots kill more than 200,000 Americans each year, Durkin said.
