Three people from Chicago have been charged in connection with a kidnapping of a Lemont mother and her baby earlier this week.

A 31-year-old Lemont woman and her 5-month old baby were found unharmed in a Chicago home at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the 6200 block of Springfield Avenue. Police found the woman blindfolded, duct taped and tied to a pole, police said. The 5-month-old baby was also found and he appeared to be unharmed.

Marcus A. Cadiz, 45, Jose M. Trevino, 36, and Trevino’s wife, Rosa S. Trevino, 43, each face two counts of aggravated kidnapping, said officials from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

At about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, Lemont police responded to a 911 call of an abduction of the woman and her child from her Lemont home in the 600 block of Fourth Street.

During the course of the investigation, demands were made by the trio for a sum of money in return for the woman and her child, said Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy.

The crime was not random, he said.

The house where the woman and baby were kidnapped were on the market, being sold by the woman, who is a real estate agent.

“(The kidnappers) booked an appointment online to come and view the house,” Shaughnessy said. “She agreed to show them the home. When the three offenders showed up under the guise of looking at it, they pulled a gun and bound and gagged her.”

Why they picked this particular home is still under investigation, he said.

“Obviously they were drawn to that house for a reason,” he said.

The investigation led to the Chicago house. Investigators, including the FBI and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, monitored the residence based on leads and information.

Officers saw two men exit a house suspected in the crime. Both men were confronted by police and a cell phone belonging to the victim was found in their possession, police said. Police immediately went into the home, where the found the mother, who was restrained, and child.

The arrests were made without incident. Two handguns were recovered from the scene. Rose Trevino was found in the home and was also taken into custody, police said.

Bond was denied for all three earlier Friday, Sept. 18, at Bridgeview Courthouse in Cook County.

If convicted, the trio could be sentenced up to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Their next court date is Oct. 1.

Shaughnessy lauds the teamwork of the FBI, South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, State’s Attorney’s office, Illinois State Police and Lemont police officials.

“Without their absolute teamwork and the quick and unrelenting effort to locate the captive mother and baby, the results of this investigation may not have been as fortunate,” he said.
