The Cutting Edge Styling Salon in Downers is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Renee Braun's father, Edward Bormann, started the salon on Main Street. The salon has relocated a few times and is now on Ogden. On September 6th the salon had an anniversary party.

A three-hour hostage drama in a downtown Wheaton bank Friday afternoon ended with the lone offender killing himself. He was identified as Michael R. Long, 41, of the 1400 block of Cantigny Way in Wheaton.

DarienFest is going on all this weekend. The opening ceremonies featured a speech from the mayor of Darien and a performance by the Eisenhower Junior High band. There will be carnival rides and live bands playing all weekend.

Dancing, singing, joking seniors have fine tuned their acts in preparation for the big Senior Idol talent competition at the Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging's Senior Lifestyle Expo at Drury Lane Theatre and Conference Center in Oakbrook Terrace. The Senior Lifestyle Expo is Chicagoland's largest event of its kind with more than 4,500 people attending over two days and it's all for a good cause, since proceeds benefit Holiday Meals on Wheels.

This weekend was the annual National Criterium Championship bike races in downtown Downers Grove. Cyclists from around the country participate in this event including men, women and juniors. The winners of most of the rides receive a monetary award.
