Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market are among 11 organizations in Kane County that will receive grant funding to combat childhood obesity.
For the second time this year, grants ranging from $1,200 to $10,000 will be provided by the Making Kane County Fit for Kids Funders Consortium.
The Northern Illinois Food Bank will use the funds to expand refrigeration capacity at local pantries for more fresh produce and dairy products. The Downtown Elgin Harvest Market will use the funds to expand the number of farmers markets in the county that accept Link cards.
Other recipients of the funding include the city of Batavia and Batavia public schools, which will work together to install school walking route signs.
