Huntley, IL -

A bus driver faces several counts of reckless conduct and child endangerment after making an abrupt stop April 30 and injuring nearly 20 Leggee Elementary School students on the bus, police said.

Huntley police said Julieta Clinton, 37, of Lake In The Hills, allegedly became angry with several students and intentionally made an abrupt stop at about 8:30 a.m. in the school’s parking lot, 13723 Harmony Road, causing several children to be thrown from their seats and resulting in minor injuries to 18 students. About 54 students were on the bus, ranging from 5 to 10 years old. One student was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

Reports state Clinton had made a similar abrupt stop earlier that morning at about 8 a.m., causing several students to be thrown from their seat. No injuries were reported from that incident.

Clinton has been charged with 19 counts of reckless conduct and 19 counts of child endangerment.

She posted bond and was released with a McHenry County Court date of May 22.

A letter was sent home to parents about the incident, police said.
