1. How did the school board develop these goals?
Last year the district engaged in a strategic planning process. The process included input from many stakeholders including parents, student, staff, alumni and the community. The multi-year goals in the contract were developed collaboratively with the superintendent and were designed to align directly to the strategic plan.
2. How do you measure successful completion of the goals?
Each goal has specific indicators that have been identified to define the successful completion of that goal. As we conduct our evaluation process and start to build and update goals for the coming year, we try to improve the way they are established to ensure that we can measure progress and success against previous accomplishments. As a district, we are committed to continuous improvement.
3. What role does the public have in holding the superintendent accountable for the goals?
The strategic plan was developed with input from the public, and it will be important to keep the goals of the superintendent aligned with the plan so that focus and resources are on plan implementation. It will be important to continue to get input from the community in updating the strategic plan, and in measuring how well we are doing in staying true to the plan. This will be the strongest measure of success of the superintendent.
4. How will public access to the goals influence how they are created in the future?
The public was engaged in the strategic planning process, and because the goals were developed based upon the priorities for the strategic plan, the public had input into the goals. It will be important to engage the community in keeping this plan current and ensuring that the district is on track in following the plan. As the superintendent’s goal are driven from the plan, that will continue to allow public input into the development of the ongoing goals for the superintendent.
