1. How did the school board develop these goals?
In collaboration with the superintendent.

2. How do you measure successful completion of the goals?
Well clearly it depends on which goal we’re talking about. We’ll have different markers for each of the individual goals. We’ll get a report from the superintendent regarding the status of the goal completion and we’ll make a finding whether or not those goals have been completed. Each goal will have its own individual marker.

3. What role does the public have in holding the superintendent accountable for the goals?
Well the public elects the school board and the school board’s role is to (hold the superintendent accountable). We have one employee; the superintendent. The superintendent manages all others. We hold the superintendent accountable. The public’s role is electing us to hold him accountable. A good board will be in touch with the community and the community’s aspirations, what type of goals to strive for in the school system, be receptive to the needs of the community and ask the superintendent to execute.

4. How will public access to the goals influence how they are created in the future?
It’s part of the document that is in the superintendent’s contract. It’s discussed in open meetings. So to answer your question, no, I don’t think it would impact it one way or the other. Right now, it’s a fairly transparent process. We would welcome more public input into the goals and see them step forward with ideas and comments.
