Dressed as a swan, Kelly Stokes gives her young audience members a brief history of ballet, demonstrates basic dance steps, and invites them to flock together to perform a segment from “The Ugly Duckling.”   Afterwards, she shows them a two-minute video of professional dancers performing the same segment.   The reaction?

Dance competitions are a terrific experience for students of ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance, providing larger venues and cheering crowds, and bringing together groups of talented dancers who have worked very hard to perfect their routines.  Having a forum to showcase their talents in a fun, encouraging environment offers many benefits to the young competitors.  They learn how to handle pressure, show good sportsmanship, encourage others to perform their best, and work together to achieve a goal.

The two most notable wine regions in California still are Sonoma and Napa.  However, the Paso Robles American Viticultural Appellation (AVA) quickly is gaining popularity and accolades in the new millennium - winning the Wine Enthusiast Wine Region of the Year in 2013.  This AVA was established in 1983 and expanded in 1999 and then again in 2009.  It is located along the famed California Highway 101 and is halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.  The AVA lies on the inland side of the Santa Lucia coastal mountains in San Luis Obispo County.  Paso Robles is home to more than 200 wineries and 32,000 vineyard acres.  Like all AVAs, there are many distinct microclimates and diverse soil compositions that offer thriving conditions for man
