WHAT TO WATCH
Brown, who also is the head coach of the girls program, takes over the boys team after being an assistant for several years. She inherits a squad that is relatively young in age but has a good deal of varsity experience.
The Broncos have only three seniors on the roster but do return seven starters.
The leader of that group is Werner, who will be expected to contribute heavily in the scoring department. Carpanzano has a stranglehold on the center midfield position after a solid freshman campaign, while Milcent anchors the defense along with Latella, the sweeper.
Samas and Burke should see ample playing time in their first season of high school soccer while Hill takes over in goal despite being only a freshman.
“I am not worried about Tim,” Brown said. “He is very aggressive; he is a hockey and baseball player. I think we will be OK in that area.”
Montini will be looking to improve its record from a year ago after checking in at 5-11-1. How quickly the youngsters adapt to the varsity game and mesh with their more experienced teammates will go a long way in determining the team’s success.
“We really have a good mix of kids,” Brown said. “They really get along with each other and I think they will do well together. Practices have gone well. I think the first three games will be important. They will show the freshmen what they have to do as varsity players.”

COACH SPEAK
Sue Brown
What are you feeling as you enter your first year as the boys head coach?

“I am very excited; a little nervous but very excited. This is a good group of boys that I’m working with. I think we will have a good season.”

What are your goals for the upcoming campaign?
“The goal is to have a better record than we had last year. And I also just want to bring the team to the potential it can get to.”
