A new and unique business made its way into Lombard just a few weeks ago. Creative One Studio is welcoming the public to express themselves in a way that is most comfortable for each person. Owner Lani Terselic shares her story on how it all began and her hopes for the future.
Q What inspired you to do this?
A A long time ago, I was involved in dance. That is something that I just did because I really enjoyed it and I got a lot of self-esteem out of it. Being a dancer in high school helped me transition through some very difficult times, which I feel is something almost everyone experiences in their lives.
Q What kind of programs are offered at the studio?
A The studio offers something for all age groups. What I have here is critical counseling, but I am also an expressive art therapist. The studio provides a variety of things for people to try out, such as dance movements, yoga, art therapy and Thai yoga massage. Basically, it is there to provide more enriching life experiences. Creative learning is there to create a space for exploring potentiality. We also offer basic Mandarin Chinese for all ages.
Q What are your goals for the studio?
A Our main goal is our mission statement, which is to create a space for exploring potentiality and promoting creative opportunities for people of all ages, shapes, colors and cultures. The company seeks to support and develop the flow of creative and healthy self-expression, promote awareness of holistic health and wellness, and invite creative alternative methods of coping to decrease any destructive patterns of behavior in ourselves, the community and our environment.
I’d like for the studio to grow, and I’d like it to be a well-rounded space programatically. Our classes are very limited in size, so I would like to focus on providing individual attention. I am a licensed counselor in the state of Illinois, and I have more than 14 years of experience in a psychiatric hospital. I have covered every aspect of both inpatient and outpatient issues, and currently my main prospects are eating disorders, self-injury and adolescence.
