Two girls who ran away from a group home in Downers Grove ended up revealing a sex and prostitution ring headed by two women and a man in a Lombard hotel last week.
On July 9, the girls ran away from their group home and ended up near the Extended Stay Hotel, 260 E. 22nd St., Lombard. Dane Cuny, Lombard deputy police chief, said the girls turned themselves over to police after they were approached by one or more individuals who offered to engage them in prostitution.
At about 3 p.m. July 10, Lombard police went to the hotel and arrested three individuals.
Lashonda Smith, 19, of Wheaton was charged with prostitution and possession of marijuana; Ashley Harrell, 18, of Chicago was charged with one count of criminal sexual abuse; and Robert Hampton, 25, of Chicago was charged with juvenile pimping and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Cuny said.
Smith was charged with misdemeanors and released, police said. Harrell and Hampton were charged July 11 and transported to DuPage County Jail where they remain — Hampton on a $750,000 bail and Harrell on a $10,000 bail. They both have Aug. 11 court dates, the DuPage County sheriff’s office said.
