Direct bus service to Yorktown Shopping Center resumed today, ending a more than two-month dispute that diverted buses off the mall's property.
Bus routes 313, 322, 715, 834, 877 and 888 started up again Monday, making stops at the original Yorktown stop on the mall grounds east of JCPenney.
“We received numerous calls and letters from passengers [who] shared our concerns about being able to access the mall, especially with winter weather on the way,” Pace Chairman Richard Kwasneski stated in a release. “We’re grateful to all of our riders for being patient under some very difficult circumstances and bearing with us as we sought a resolution to this issue.
“It’s our hope that this situation is now behind us.”
The staging and transfer center for idling buses will also return to Yorktown from its temporary location on Branding Avenue in Downers Grove. Buses have also resumed staging on mall property for brief periods of time until a permanent solution can be implemented in November.
Pace buses had been making stops at Highland Avenue and Butterfield Road in lieu of stops on mall property since the transit firm was told to leave the mall Aug. 1.
