The Midsummer Theatre Troupe will present William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “Twelfth Night” at various outdoor locations during July.
To quote the play’s Count Orsino, “If music be the food of love, play on!” Performances are scheduled as follows:
• Island Park in Geneva, 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12
• Walter Payton’s Roundhouse in Aurora, 7 p.m. Tuesdays, July 15 and 22
• Central Park in Naperville, 7 p.m. Friday, July 18
• Cantigny in Wheaton, 6 p.m. Sunday, July 20
• McCarty Park in Aurora, 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27
All performances are free, with the exception of Cantigny. Patrons are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and refreshments to all performances, except those at the Roundhouse.
Enjoying its 10th season, the Midsummer Theatre Troupe is led by Toni Hix. A professional casting director in Chicago and Los Angeles, Hix has directed many plays in local theaters, as well as all of the Midsummer productions.
“We are committed to providing quality Shakespeare productions each summer to local audiences, but in a way that is relaxed and casual,” Hix said. “This is family-friendly entertainment under the stars.”
“Twelfth Night” is one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies. Like many of his plots, this one revolves around the complications that ensue when the heroine pretends to be a man— which includes having another woman fall in love with her.
The Midsummer ensemble includes Gary Puckett, Robert Becker, Analissa Morris, all of Aurora; William Elbert, Dawson Price and Griffin Price, all of Batavia; Mollie O’Connor Dooley and John Dooley, both of Chicago; Erin Cauley of Elgin; Alison Auer and Kristen Duerdoth, both of Geneva; Carl Zeitler of Glen Ellyn; Dan McQuaid of Naperville; Bruce Worthel of North Aurora; and J.P. Quirk of South Elgin.
The producers are Tim and Sharon Sullivan Sound design is by Peter Hix, with Todd Von Ohlen as sound assistant. Colette Shelby is assistant director; Nikki Shelby is stage manager.
