Montini lists inductees for Alumni Hall of Fame

On Saturday, April 28, Montini Catholic High School will induct seven new members into the Alumni Hall of Fame.

Inductees include:

Carol Kearney Kelly, Class of 1970              

Recognized for outstanding dedication and service to the community and achievement in the field of law.

Carol Kelly has been recognized as a leader in the field of law for 29 years. She began her career as an assistant state’s attorney, and in 1992 was elected to the Cook County Circuit Court. In 1999 she became the supervising judge of Cook County Juvenile Court and currently holds the position today. She has also been recognized by the Chicago Bar Association for her role in establishing an Adopt-A-School Tutoring program.

David Pojman, Class of 1977              

Recognized for outstanding professional achievement in the field of business.
David Pojman has served the McDonald’s Corp. for 23 years. In 1997 he became the vice president-international controller for McDonald’s. In 2000 he was appointed vice president and assistant corporate controller. In March 2002, Pojman became the senior vice president and comptroller. As an active member of the community, Pojman, serves on the local school board and is an avid supporter of Montini Catholic High School.

Dr. Mark Duerinck, Class of 1975              

Recognized for outstanding professional achievement in the field of medicine and service to the community.

After an outstanding academic career at Notre Dame University, graduating Phi Betta Kappa and summa cum laude, Duerinck received his M.D. from Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine, University of Illinois College of Medicine. He was named Intern of the Year at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago, as well as received several awards and honors in his field. Since 2001, Duerinck has served in the cardiology staff at Central DuPage Hospital.

Duerinck has looked for ways to use his education to serve the needs of others. In 2000, he began work with Cardiologist International, and he visited several countries to care for the poor and underprivileged children. He has traveled to the Ukraine nine times to work in hospitals to care for homeless children as well as help to build more than 25 orphanages to provide those children with shelter.


Dr. Barbara Velsor Friedrich, Class of 1970              

Recognized for outstanding achievement in the field of nursing.

Velsor Friedrich graduated from Loyola University of Chicago School of Nursing and earned her Ph.D. from Northwestern. She began her teaching career in 1979 at Loyola University. She has risen from instructor to full professor, holding positions such as Team Leader, Course Coordinator, Coordinator for the Masters Program and Director of the Doctoral Program. Velsor Friedrich has completed two-post doctoral fellowships and has been published.

She is a member of numerous community and professional organizations, as well as serves on the boards of directors for a number of different health organizations. In 2003 she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children.

Dan Laughlin, Class of 1986              

Recognized for outstanding dedication and support to Montini Catholic High School.
Dan Laughlin was an outstanding student athlete while at Montini Catholic High School. He was an active leader participating in many different areas throughout the school. As a graduate he actively supports Montini programs and alumni activities. He has served on the Montini Catholic High School Alumni Board for several years and has been the Chair of the Alumni Golf Outing Committee for the past six years and is largely responsible for the growth and success of the event.

R.G. Starman, Class of 1989              

Recognized for outstanding achievement in his professional career
R.G. Starman had outstanding academic achievements while attending Montini Catholic High School. While competing in basketball at Montini Catholic, he earned several scoring records. After Montini, he received both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Notre Dame University. He then was appointed to the U.S. Secret Service Agency. He now serves on the on high priority detail in Washington D.C.

Diane Davies Boeh, Class of 1974              

Recognized for outstanding achievement in his professional career.

At Montini Diane Davies Boeh was an outstanding student leader and a high honor student. She was considered a pioneer in girl’s athletics, excelling in both women’s cross country and track. She graduated from the University of Illinois with high honors. She then earned her jurist prudence degree, also from the University of Illinois. As an administrative partner in a prestigious law firm in Denver Colo., she has been a leader in her field focusing on real estate titles, commercial real estate sales, leading and commercial lending. In the Montini Alumni Association, she has been extremely active in spearheading the Class of 1974 activities.
