DuPage County sheriff’s deputies working undercover with underage teens cited three local businesses for selling tobacco to minors under the age of 18.
Each violating retailer received an ordinance violation punishable by a fine of up to $200.
This is the final of three rounds of tobacco compliance checks of the 52 businesses in unincorporated DuPage County for the fiscal year 2008. The compliance checks conducted are funded by a grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here program.
Businesses cited were Itasca Liquors, 5N105 Route 53, Itasca; Circle K, 1117 Maple Ave., Lisle; and Clark Gas, 11S370 Route 83, Willowbrook.
The sheriff’s office has participated in the Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here program for the past eight years.
