Bolingbrook, IL -

John A. Pighee Jr., 610 Preston Drive, Bolingbrook, has been charged with felony disorderly conduct for disrupting service at a Bolingbrook bank this morning by calling police shortly before noon to report a bank robbery in progress and providing a description of the alleged robber — himself.

In a case Bolingbrook police are calling “bizarre,” Pighee, 58, had gone to Bank of America, 111 Lily Cache Lane in the Quadrangle Shopping Center, to try and access his bank account, which had been closed due to what police said was an out-of-state lien on his wages and bank account.

“Apparently a lien placed on his account for child support was no longer valid — Mr. Pighee told us he had documentation to support the claim — but Mr. Pighee told us he had difficulty getting the bank to resolve the issue and had become very frustrated he could not access his account,” said Lt. Ken Teppel, spokesman for the Bolingbrook Police Department. “Apparently Mr. Pighee’s intention was to disrupt the bank’s service in protest, so while inside the bank he called 911 to report a bank robbery in process and gave a description of himself,” Teppel said.

Officers responding to the bank could see inside the bank through windows and contacted employees inside the bank, who said there was no bank robbery in progress. When police entered the bank they saw Pighee — who matched the description given by the caller — talking on his cell phones and placed him into custody for disorderly conduct.

Teppel said Bolingbrook police arrested Pighee on a local misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, which was upgraded to a felony charge of disorderly conduct by the Will County State’s Attorney, Teppel said.

Teppel said police contacted the FBI, who declined to take the case.

“Because he did not imply he had a weapon or gun, did not have a weapon and did not ask for money, there is no charge for bank robbery,” Teppel said.

Apparently Pighee’s plan worked to an extent, Teppel said.

“The bank was closed for awhile as we interviewed all employees, but was back in operation in about an hour,” Teppel said.

Teppel said Pighee had no prior record and no previous contacts with Bolingbrook police.
