The Cryan’ Shames, with featured guest Dennis Tufano, will close out the 12-performance 2008 Summer Concert Series on Saturday, Aug. 30, Bolingbrook officials have announced.
The finale will unite one of the most popular Chicago area bands of the 1960s — The Cryan’ Shames originated in Hinsdale and achieved stardom with the hit single “Sugar and Spice” — with Tufano, the lead singer from The Buckinghams, according to Dale McClannahan, facilities coordinator for Bolingbrook.
“We’ve worked hard to sign some new bands for the series so we can keep the acts fresh, while at the same time bring in bands that will provide a high level of quality, diverse entertainment,” McClannahan said.
One of those new bands is Incendio, a Spanish/Latin infusion band based in California that will close out its week-long Chicago area tour in Aug. 6 with its Bolingbrook performance.
“They are really an exciting, unique band. We are fortunate to have them signed,” McClannahan said.
The popular concert series brings 11 local and nationally-known acts to the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center for concerts on-the-hill on Wednesday nights from June through August.
The Saturday, Aug. 30 performance by the Cryan’ Shames is a special presentation.
According to McClannahan the village budgeted $30,000 for the concert series, but will spend about $19,000 on the village’s six acts.
The first six concerts of the series are sponsored by the Bolingbrook Park District, the last six by the Village of Bolingbrook. The Bolingbrook Park District budgeted $6,200 for its six performances, said Christy Sorenson, recreation supervisor for the Park District.
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., and include:
June 11 — The Associates, a Motown and variety band;
June 18 — Sones de Mexico, a group specializing in Mexican folk music;
June 25 — The Fairlanes Band, specializing in a blend of classic rock music;
