Creating works of art is strictly a business for Loreen Hospodar, but that doesn’t mean she dislikes her line of work.

“I’m not a typical artist that needs to paint just to paint,” Hospodar said. “Painting is work for me, but I enjoy it most of the time.”

Hospodar, a Lemont native, has been busy for the past year and a half getting her latest business venture, Reenie Rose, off the ground. With Reenie Rose, Hospodar creates oil paintings of bridal bouquets for couples on their big day.

The goal of the paintings is to preserve the elegance and significance of a wedding bouquet, Hospodar said.

“They’re getting a piece of artwork to start out their lives together,” she said. “You spend a lot of money on a bouquet, so these are kind of memorabilia pieces.”

Hospodar takes several photos of a bouquet and then lets the couple or gift-giver chose which composition she will paint.

“My bouquets aren’t these stuffy still-lifes in a vase,” she said. “They’re looking to get a nice representation of it.”

The business began after Hospodar started painting bouquets for friends and family and received positive feedback on her work.

“I’m lucky I’m at an age that people are getting married regularly,” Hospodar said. “It was special to be able to give the painting and know that it was more than just some random wall art.”

The business grew once Hospodar built a portfolio, and began building a client base.

Aside from painting bouquets, Hospodar has been commissioned to paint several murals, including a representation of her hometown on a staircase wall at The Inn at Smokey Row, 112 Stephen St. in downtown Lemont.

The hardest part of running a business is balancing everything, Hospodar said. She’s currently searching for a marketing intern to help her with promotion.

The overall goal is to make more people aware of her business, Hospodar said.
“I’m hoping Martha Stewart will snatch me up and feature me for her show,” Hospodar said with a laugh.

Notable
Hospodar arranged her first craft fair at her family’s cottage when she was 9. Naming it the “Rainy Day Kids Craft Fair,” Hospodar and a dozen other children vacationing on Big Cedar Lake in northern Wisconsin sold handmade crafts.

& quotable
Hospodar pursued a degree in illustration because it was fine-art based, but she originally wanted to go into animation. “I had a dream of working for Disney back in the day,” she said.
