For the 14th year, the Lemont Artists Guild, in conjunction with the Lemont Park District, invites the public in for the Love of Art fine art and craft show and sale, event coordinator Mona Parry said. The show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Lemont Park District, 16028 127th St.
There will be more than 35 artists plus a few new features that people should like, Parry added. Bringing artists from Lemont to Wisconsin and Indiana together “to show their exquisite work,” Parry said.
Watercolorist Cyn O’Brien of Homer Glen, who is returning for the seventh year, said many people are surprised at the unique pieces and the quality of the art work.
“It is a very diverse show and includes everything from sculpture to jewelry to painting and from photography to wood carving,” she said. “And we have the freedom to do demonstrations so people can see how we work.”
Planning to demonstrate some of her painting techniques while showing her watercolor paintings and offering home renderings and portraits, O’Brien said the guild is always accommodating and creates a warm and friendly environment for artists as well as shoppers.
As people enter the show, they will be invited to consider all of the art and vote for the artist they feel should win the People’s Choice Award. The Lemont High School Art Club will have a table to show some of the work students complete at school. And the Lemont Art and Culture Commission will be on hand to update the public on current projects.
Additionally, in remembrance of Lee Anderson, Lemont’s longtime folk historian who passed away this year, shoppers will find a selection of his folk-art style bird carvings, on display and available for purchase through the generosity of Anderson family. Proceeds will be used to help finance the art guild’s educational programs throughout the year, Parry said.
As a special addition, there will be wine tasting sponsored by the Wine Emporium.
However, most excitement is generated by the artwork, according to returning abstract artist Liz Popp.
“It’s very exciting to hear people regularly say how impressed they are with the quality of the art produced by people from the Lemont area,” she said. “As a continuing artist in the show, it gives me a sense of pride. The show provides a consistent exhibition, and the people who come year after year are always curious to see what the artists are up to each time they come,” Popp added. “I invite many people to the show each year, and I continually get compliments on it. I always hear how happy they are to attend. It sparks new creative interest in some of us, and it gives the people who attend some new artwork to hang on their walls.”
Admission is free, and the facility is handicap accessible. Refreshments will be available for purchase as shoppers browse the large variety of artwork.
