Many of us will be giving thanks for the good things in our lives over a Thanksgiving meal in couple of weeks. However, at the Lemont Area Historical Society Thanksgiving came a little early this year, according to secretary Susan Donahue.

Former World War II marine pilot Clarence “Clancy” Hess will talk about his flying experiences and share wartime stories during a Veteran’s Day commemoration program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St.

For the 14th year, the Lemont Artists Guild, in conjunction with the Lemont Park District, invites the public in for the Love of Art fine art and craft show and sale, event coordinator Mona Parry said. The show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Lemont Park District, 16028 127th St.

In 2005, Thanksgiving dinner changed for a number of local residents. Instead of spending the day alone or feeling blue, they discovered a warm welcome at a friendly gathering at Safety Village in downtown Lemont.

The Lemont Garden Club member said it is time for the group’s ever-popular Holiday Beginnings creative floral design event, and the club is eager to let people know.

Villagers are used to attending special events in historic downtown Lemont. But a new event is coming to town that will have participants learning about a completely different part of Lemont history.

“Our goal with the Lemont River Sweep project, which is part of Illinois River Sweep, is to clean up one of the treasures of Lemont,” said Sue Murphy, Lemont event chairwoman. “Plus it’s fun to draw people to one of the great resources in our community.”

Not far from a shiny white Lamborghini with red interior, a young mother sat on a curb enjoying ice cream with her young daughter. The wing-like car doors were open to the sky, and onlookers peeked into the vehicle every few minutes as if to see whether or not the car really could be fitted-out as a time machine.

At the bottom of a steep hill along North Main Street in Lemont, there is a sign that advertises Alvernia Manor Summerfest. It is in an area that most Lemonters rarely pass. Yet, once people discover it, they love the small facility on its lush hill, according to Sister Cindy Drozd, Alvernia Manor Retirement Community administrator.
