LA GRANGE
Home burglary reported
A  home burglary was reported in the 700 block of South Spring Avenue at 10 p.m. Oct. 23. Police said the rear back door to the home was found unlocked and there were pry marks near a rear window.

Two iPods and $150 in cash were stolen, police said. The garage also appeared to have been disturbed but nothing was reported missing, police added.

Car burglarized
A car owner scared off two thieves but not before they made off with a global positioning system unit in the 0 to 100 block of Bluff Avenue at 2:35 p.m. Oct. 24.

The car owner told police he looked outside to find a man standing by an open door and another man inside the car that was left unlocked and parked on the street, police said. The owner yelled, and both men fled. The GPS is valued at $150.

Man faces drug charges
A man was charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop at La Grange Road and 47th Street at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 24, police said.

Police said a vehicle driven by Matthew P. Olinger, 22, of Willowbrook was seen making an improper right turn from Bluff Road onto 47th Street. Olinger began acting suspiciously just before an officer noticed a plastic bag stuffed in the door handle, which later was tested to contain cocaine, according to police.

Olinger also was arrested for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and cited for making an improper right turn and driving on a suspended license.

Vandalism reported
A string of criminal damage to vehicles and property was reported between Oct. 24 and 25, according to police.

• The driver’s window of a car parked in the vicinity of 49th Street and Sixth Avenue was reported broken Oct. 24. Damage is estimated at $500.

On Oct. 25, two cars and five residential and commercial properties also were vandalized, police said.

• The rear window and mirror of a car parked near Bell and Peck avenues were broken. Damage is estimated at $400.

• The rear window of a car parked in the 0 to 100 block of Edgewood Avenue also was  broken. Damage is estimated at $500.

• Someone smashed a window to the General Store, 2 N. Brainard Ave. Damage is estimated at $300.

• A window to a law firm was smashed  by a rock at 905 W. Hilgrove Ave. Window blinds and a computer keyboard also were damaged at an estimated cost of $580.

• A stone wall of a residence in the 1100 block of West 41st Street was reported damaged. Several stones from the wall were taken, police said.

WESTCHESTER
Battery alleged
A Westchester woman was charged with misdemeanor battery after being accused of striking a person in the 11000 block of Martindale Drive at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21.

Police said Eakpreeya Ponglorpista, 52, 11110 Martindale Lane, struck the person on the hip after the person opened a car door and struck a wire fence that Ponglorpista had put up along the other person’s driveway.

BROOKFIELD
DUI alleged
A man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested at about 11:10 p.m. Oct. 22 at Ogden and Amelia avenues.

James Soulides, 53, of Westchester was driving 55 mph in a posted 30 mph zone and veering over the double yellow line while driving eastbound on Ogden Avenue.

After officers activated emergency lights and sirens, Soulides sped up, continuing to drive down Ogden Avenue and ignored hand signals to stop from assisting Lyons police officers, police said.

Soulides was stopped by a vehicle blocking his path at Ogden and Amelia avenues, according to police.

He failed field sobriety tests and refused a breath test as well as blood and urine tests, police said.

He received citations for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, following too closely, failure to signal, fleeing/eluding the police, driving without a seat belt and speeding.

Traffic stop yields charges
A man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested at about 10:35 p.m. Oct. 21 in the 4100 block of Grove Avenue.

Jonathan Trezek, 25, 4007 Raymond Ave., Brookfield did not stop at a stop sign Sunnyside and Ogden avenues and did not use a signal when turning from Ogden Avenue onto Grove Avenue, according to police.

Trezek failed field sobriety tests and was arrested, according to police. His blood alcohol content was 0.109 percent, over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He was issued citations for improper lane usage, failure to signal, not wearing a seat belt and disobeying a stop sign, police added.

Driver found sleeping in car
A woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested at about 12:50 a.m. Oct. 19 in the 3900 block of Maple Avenue.

Tina Niezgoda-Ticknor, 48, 3925 Forest Ave., Brookfield was found sleeping in a running car with the engine running and the left-turn signal on, according to police.

She failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.166 percent, over the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

RIVERSIDE
Man charged with DUI
Police said a man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being pulled over at about 8:55 p.m. Oct. 23 at 39th Street and Barrypoint Road.

Ronald Lau, 51, of Riverside Lawn was arrested after officers responded to a call of a reckless driver, police said. Officers located the vehicle on the Barrypoint Road Bridge and saw the car make a left turn onto 39th Street.

Lau failed field sobriety tests and refused the breath test, police said.

He also was cited for improper lane usage, driving while not having his driver’s license and driving without insurance, police added.
