La Grange, IL -

The Lyons Township baseball team played well down the stretch but had its season come to a close following a 3-1 loss to Plainfield North during a Class 4A Hinsdale South regional semifinal game May 27 in Darien.

Plainfield North used some small ball to take an early lead. The Wildcats started with a single and bunt single, sacrificed the runners ahead a base and plated the first run on an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. They added a solo home run in the fourth to go up 2-0.

LT trimmed the deficit in half in the top of the sixth. Brian Trefil doubled, went to third on a single by Andrew Schrepher and scored on Luke Verdin’s sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats, though, plated another run with two outs in the sixth.

The Lions had runners on second and third with one out in the second but could not score and the Wildcats turned two double plays in the game.

Trefil finished with two doubles, while James Leszczynski added two singles. Brian Lehmann went the distance on the mound and had a solid outing, allowing just six hits and striking out two.

The Lions finished the season with an 18-15 mark, including an 8-10 record in the West Suburban Silver.
