Upgrades to pedestrian crossing signals will begin July 8 in the downtown area of La Grange.
Signals will be upgraded to light emitting diodes (LED) modules that provide better light quality and visibility, last longer and consume less energy than conventional lamps.
The project also includes improvements to pedestrian signals at signalized intersections throughout the village with numerical timer displays and new symbol displays that indicate the time remaining for pedestrians to cross a roadway.
Battery backup system will be installed at each intersection for the possibility of a power outage.
The project is expected to be completed in two months.
Funding was provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
