In an event organized by students, Nazareth Academy will host a Relay for Life event beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday and stretching all the way into Sunday morning.

Students who travel abroad to learn a language are usually college-aged, or at least in their last years of high school. But a handful of eighth-graders and recent graduates of Park Junior High broke that norm at the end of March by taking a trip to Paris to sharpen their French skills.

Susan Birkenmaier has been working toward becoming a superintendent for the past 10 years and beginning July 1, she’ll step into that role at Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. Birkenmaier is currently the director of operations at La Grange Highlands School District 106.

The Lyons Township High School Board of Education selected Thomas W. Cushing, of La Grange, to serve out William Purcell’s term of office until April 2013. Purcell passed away last month.

Three years ago, while visiting New York City, Karenna Lange had the opportunity to walk around the Statue of Liberty.
