The Robert Frost statue in Burlington Park in Hinsdale is partially covered with a dusting of snow, while a visitor gets a better look at the "North Pole Post Office" set up in the park. The first snow of the season struck Sunday night, leaving a couple of inches to clear or ignore on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009.

Monday probably won’t see any more snow, but a major winter storm is on the way for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Romeoville is predicting snow to start falling after midnight on Tuesday, said meteorologist Andrew Krein. It will likely pick up around morning rush hour, and snow will continue off and in through the evening and possibly into Wednesday morning.

“Western suburbs (will see) probably six to eight inches,” Krein said. “The farther east you go, less.”
