Children are invited to participate in an essay contest sponsored by Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Essays on “What the Pink Ribbon Means to Me” are due Thursday, Sept. 23. Winners will be announced at the hospital’s tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, 701 Winthrop Ave., Glendale Heights. The event is free and open to the public.
Submissions can be sent via mail postmarked by Thursday, Sept. 23 to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, Attn.: Marketing Dept., 303 E. Army Trail Road, Suite 400, Bloomingdale, IL 60108; fax to (630) 539-1770, Attn: Tina Marie Johnson, Marketing Department; or e-mail to tina.johnson@ahss.org.
Essays must be the original work of the child submitting the entry, one typed or handwritten page, and include the entrant’s name, age, hometown and the name and contact information of a responsible adult, such as a parent, guardian or teacher.
Essays will be judged on content and originality in three categories based on age: 10 and younger, 11 to 14, and 15 to 17. The first-place winner will receive a Nintendo Wii game system and his or her essay will be read at the ceremony. Second- and third-place winners will receive $100 gift cards and their essays will be distributed at the event.
