Glendale Heights man remains in serious condition

James Ziecina, 56, of Glendale Heights remains in serious condition at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after a firework-related explosion at his home Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the explosion about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of East Altgeld Avenue in Glendale Heights, where they found Ziecina in the front entrance of his home.

Deputy Chief Tom Bialas of the Glendale Heights Police Department said clean-up crews worked until 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to clear the home of fireworks before the street was opened for traffic.
