Westchester, IL -

Stone Park Police have charged 30-year-old Nicholas Carrino of Westchester with the murder of a Niles man who was found shot in the chest following an altercation Wednesday morning, Nov. 4.

Carrino, 30, was charged with murdering Daniel Kowalewski, 32, of 7630 W. Madison St.

Kowalewski was pronounced dead at 2:27 p.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood after he was found lying on the ground near the intersection of Mannheim Road and Division Street in Stone Park by police answering a 911 call, Stone Park Police said.

Police Chief Giuseppe Capece said Carrino turned himself into police accompanied by his attorney.

While police are still investigating a motive, it appears the men where not strangers.

"To the best of my knowledge, thy were acquainted,” Capece said.

The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and Stone Park detectives are investigating.

An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 5.
