Several burglaries have occurred at residences throughout Huntley during the past two weeks, according to police.

The Huntley Police Department is investigating the burglaries, which were reported in the Covington Lakes Subdivision, Georgian Place Subdivision and the Southwind Subdivision.

The burglaries have all occurred sometime during overnight hours and the burglar or burglars have entered residences through unlocked patio doors. Once inside, the suspect or suspects take purses, wallets or cell phones that are left on kitchen tables or countertops, police said.

The suspects have been targeting homes that are near bike and jogging paths, police said.

Police are encouraging residents not to leave any valuable items in plain view of their rear patio doors and are reminding citizens to lock doors and windows and close garage doors at night.

Installing motion sensor lighting and keeping dark outdoor areas lit at night are other ways to help deter criminal activity, police said. Metal bar locks can be used to secure sliding patio doors.

Anyone with information about the burglaries can contact the Huntley Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (847) 515-5311.
