A student at Huntley High School was charged with disorderly conduct and suspended from school last week after he allegedly made threats against other students and faculty on MySpace.com.
Huntley police allege that William Kuhns, 17, attempted to obtain a gun and threatened to shoot students and faculty at the school.
The threat was posted on a private MySpace.com forum Kuhns created for Huntley High School students, police said. Two individuals who became alarmed by the MySpace.com page contacted school officials, who confronted Kuhns when he arrived at school Oct. 11.
Kuhns was apprehended by school officials while police searched the student’s property.
Huntley Police Chief John Perkins said students and faculty were never at risk, and no weapons were found during a search of Kuhn’s backpack, locker and bedroom. Kuhns and his parents cooperated fully with the investigation, police said.
“We were fortunate we were able to stop the situation before it got out of hand,” Perkins said. “When it comes to incidents like this, the best defense were his classmates who found out about the threat and notified the authorities.”
Kuhns has been suspended from school indefinitely.
