The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning throughout the Chicago area, with tornado warnings just south and northwest of the city.
Kevin Joyce, an administrative assistant with the Cook County Sheriff's Department, said there were no confirmed reports of a touchdown in Cook County, but advised residents to remain cautious.
"Seek shelter until the weather has passed though, which will hopefully be in the next half hour."
An official with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office also said there have been no confirmed reports of a touchdown in DuPage, and that authorities expect the tornado warnings to end shortly.
Tornado warnings were cancelled in Kane County as of 7:49 p.m., according to the Kane County Sheriff's Department.
