Residents rack up a million Fitlinxx points
A million of anything is a lot, but accumulating a million Fitlinxx points over a period of years in the Sun City Fitness Center, is, in the words of today’s youngsters ... AWESOME. Fitlinxx is the trade name for a system that assigns points of achievement for various completed exercises.
What motivation could possibly encourage the Sun City seniors to exercise? Ask any of the super achievers — Ben Manibog, Chuck Recka, Don Carbon, Eric Schoenfisch, Fred Perschke, Jack Sudduth, Jim Sura, Santo Quaglia, Vince Costanza and Clet Sesterhenn — and they all agree that it’s a simple motivation. Stay well, keep fit and challenge the aging process.
Schoenfisch started on his path to earn 1 million points about eight years ago when he and his wife, Anne, decided to make Sun City their home. He has been a regular exerciser ever since.
Schoenfisch credits his wife, an advocate of good eating habits and daily exercising, with encouraging him to maintain a regular fitness program. He offers a tip to anyone who shares his commitment to being fit or thinking about beginning.
“Take it easy at first and just keep it up,” he said.
Shirley Cohen shares the honors with the other 10 Fitlinxx point masters. Cohen has the added distinction of being the only female in the high achiever group and offers her formula for endurance and dedication.
She suggests, “Eat healthy, stay away from sweets, walk often.”
Cohen can be seen at the Fitness Center doing her workouts seven days a week, two to three hours per day.
Computer language poses a challenge
Have you Googled anything recently? Millions of worldwide computer users, including hundreds of Sun City computer geek “wannabes” have added that word and that activity to their cyber language. Like the rest of the world, when they have a need to know something, just Googling it and clicking the mouse produces volumes of information, facts, figures and statistics!
Sun City residents are privileged to have access to an intra-web portal, meaning for the benefit and use of Sun City residents only.
The language used to explain the various aspects of the portal system is in English but sometimes it is a challenge for the Sun City seniors, and the rest of the world, to understand the language of “computerese.”
Recently an advice was posted on the Sun City Portal explaining an update in operating procedures. Willing to give it a try and translate it? The following is a portion of the instruction.
There was a problem with the message board counts updating real time. Now as soon as a post is added or removed, the topic count and the post count is counted in real time. Got it? Help is on the way!
Post no bills
Years ago, signs with that language were common. It was a warning to anyone not to post any signs or notices on properties, fences, walls or whatever the owner didn’t want defaced with advertising or solicitations.
To maintain a neat, orderly and attractive community environment, the Sun City Community declarations titled Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions, more commonly known as the CCRs, include an article prohibiting the posting of any type of sign anywhere on common property or on a resident’s private property
Exempt from that prohibition is one for sale sign per private property announcing the sale of that property. Sign size specifications were established.
The other exemptions are any signs posted by the developer on common property advertising the sale of or directions to new houses. That exception was established to allow for the marketing and sale of remaining homes.
